Things You Shouldn’t Say To Your Child

Being a parent can be difficult, and sometimes we tend to react to some of the things our kids do. As a parent, a lot of responsibility is required when it comes to choice of words. Just as there are things you shouldn’t say to your partner, never underestimate the power of careless words when it comes to kids. Some phrases we use for our kids go a long way. They affect a child’s view of the and sometimes they develop poor morals.

Things You Shouldn’t Say To Your Child

In order to avoid these problems, here some sentences or phrases we shouldn’t use for our children.

  • Why can’t you be more like……..?

Everybody hates comparisons and we all know comparisons serve no positive purpose at all. Comparing your child to either a sibling or his friends or a random person only leaves the notion that he or she is no good or he doesn’t measure up to the other. You have to treat every of your child as unique, instead of comparing, try and help the child solve the problem.

Everybody messes up things. Definitely children will always mess up but you do not have to hang it like a label on them. When your child makes a mess, try and address the mess and how it can be fixed because that is the only way they can learn from their mistakes.

  • I don’t have time right now

Your kids will always need your attention whether you are busy or not. When you tell your child you don’t have the time, it just screams that whatever you are doing is more important than what your child wants.

  • I don’t think you can do it

When your kids want to do anything ever, the people they look up to are their parents. Even if your kids may fail, as far as they have the support of their parents, failure doesn’t exist anymore. When your kids know they have your support, they develop courage, strength and tenacity.

Even as an adult, we hate being called stupid but we can handle it. Calling your child stupid can never be erased from your child’s mind and it doesn’t help them at all.
